The German company announced the acquisition of Insight Partners-backed R&D software maker Dotmatics. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of fiscal 2026.

The German manufacturer is exiting the heavy equipment business and shifting its focus to software to improve profitability.

“By combining our next-generation scientific intelligence platform and industry-leading scientific programs with Siemens’ capabilities in digital twins and artificial intelligence, we will create a new wave of innovation in life sciences research and development,” said Dotmatics CEO Thomas Svalla.

Boston-based Dotmatics was founded in 2005 by Merck & Co. scientists Steven Gallagher and Alastair Hill. According to the company’s website, more than 2 million scientists in 125 countries use its software, which helps digitize lab data, improve collaboration and analyze results.

Insight, a New York-based venture capital and private equity firm, first invested in Dotmatics in 2017. The Insight-backed fund agreed to buy the then UK-based company in 2021 in a deal valued at up to £500 million.

“Dotmatics’ transition from Insight Partners to Siemens is a logical next step that enables Dotmatics to further advance its mission of accelerating innovation in the life sciences,” said Jared Rosen, Managing Director of Insight.
