Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy will speak about the singer to presenter Lorraine Kelly in her first TV interview since his death.

The One Direction star died last October aged 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

On ITV's Lorraine on Wednesday, Cassidy will discuss Payne's “struggle” and the “touching” reason for her involvement in the show's new mental health campaign, the broadcaster said.

Cassidy was visiting Payne in Argentina, but flew back to America before his fatal accident.

She told The Sun newspaper last month that his death “still doesn't feel entirely real”.

She added: “Love is so optimistic and you just hope that everything will work out in the end. Obviously, if I had known, if I could have seen into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”

Payne was honoured at the Brit Awards on Saturday night with a video montage of him with his family, as well as clips from his time on The X Factor and then in One Direction, who won seven Brit Awards before splitting.

His family said Sunday they “will forever remember the joy his music brought to the world” and called his death an “unspeakable tragedy.”

Last month, it was reported that a court in Argentina had dropped criminal negligence charges against three of the five people charged over his death.

Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks, TV presenter Tyler West, Geordie Shore's Vicky Pattison, Irish model and Vogue presenter Williams and former Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds are some of the celebrities who will be sharing their personal stories as part of Lorraine's month-long March4March initiative.

The campaign will ask viewers and celebrities who support the project to “pledge” to take a series of steps throughout March.

According to ITV, the show aims to reach at least three million steps to cover the entire UK.

Kelly said: “I’m so excited that we’re launching a campaign to destigmatise mental health and I’m so grateful to the amazing people who have already come forward to bravely share their stories and pledge their support to such a worthy cause.

“I'm looking forward to getting out and about and socialising, and I'm looking forward to taking our wonderful audience with me.”

– The March4March campaign launches with Kate Cassidy on Wednesday 5 March on Lorraine, airing weekdays from 9am on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
