FRANKFURT, BERLIN – Hundreds of people protested in European cities on Saturday against U.S. President Donald Trump and his adviser Elon Musk after a tough week for financial markets after Trump announced massive global tariffs.
In the German city of Frankfurt, the “Hands Off!” demonstration was organized by Democrats Abroad, the official Democratic Party organization for US citizens living abroad.
In Berlin, protesters outside a Tesla showroom held signs calling on Americans living in Germany to come out and demand an “end to the chaos” at home.
Gathering at Frankfurt's Operplatz, members of the overseas group of democrats demanded the US president's resignation, displaying placards with slogans such as “Restore Democracy,” “Hands Off Our Personal Data,” and “The World Is Tired of Your Shit, Donald, Go Away!”
In Berlin, anti-Musk slogans read, “Shut up Elon, no one voted for you,” and a dog wore a sign that read, “Dogs vs. DOGE,” a reference to the U.S. Department of Government Effectiveness, a Trump administration initiative aimed at cutting federal spending, fraud, and abuse that Musk is temporarily leading.
In the French capital, Paris, about 200 people, mostly Americans, gathered at the Place de la Republique to protest Trump. Some made speeches denouncing the president, and protesters waved banners reading “Resist the Tyrant,” “Rule of Law,” “Feminists for Freedom, Not Fascism,” and “Save Democracy.” One sang and played Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War.”
Protests against Trump and Musk also took place in other European cities, including London and Lisbon.
In the British capital, several hundred people gathered in Trafalgar Square with signs reading “Proud America, Shame!” and “WTAF America?” The crowd chanted “Hands off Canada,” “Hands off Greenland,” and “Hands off Ukraine” as they listened to speeches critical of Trump.
