Sweden is ready to sell modern Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine . The potential purchase depends on the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson said in an interview with Breaking Defense.

“We are also in dialogue with Ukraine, and since they have expressed interest in the Gripen system… mainly the Gripen Echo, the new version that Sweden and Brazil use, a future sale is possible. In that case… it would be more of a long-term deal,” Johnson said.

At the same time, the Minister of Defense added that Sweden is “open to discussion” on the transfer of older versions of Gripen C/D aircraft.

“And I certainly spoke about this with my Ukrainian counterpart when I was in Kyiv last week,” Johnson said.

As a reminder, Sweden will allocate 750 million Swedish kronor (66.4 million euros) to support the Ukrainian budget within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program. Thus, it will be the first among EU countries to provide Ukraine with additional funding through this mechanism.
