On September 7, a Russian helicopter was spotted violating the border in the skies over Estonia. According to the Estonian Defense Forces General Staff, the Mi-8 helicopter entered the country’s airspace near the island of Vaindloo without any permission, ERR reports.

The intruder had no flight plan filed and its transponder was turned off. The Russian helicopter was over Estonian territory for about four minutes.

In response to the incident, the Estonian Foreign Ministry summoned a representative of the Russian Embassy and handed him a note of protest.

This is the third time this year that a Russian aircraft has illegally crossed Estonian airspace. For example, in the Estonian county of Tartu, on August 25, a farmer found the wreckage of a strike drone and an explosion crater.
