Polish President Andrzej Duda will meet with parliament speaker Szymon Goławnia in early August after Goławnia said he had been urged to delay the swearing-in of President-elect Karol Nawrocki on August 6, presidential aide Malgorzata Paprocka said on Sunday.

In an interview with Polsat News on Friday, Goławnia, also the leader of the ruling coalition party Poland 2050, said he had faced repeated pressure to postpone Nawrocki’s inauguration, calling it an attempt at a “coup d’état.” He declined to name names, citing only those who “did not like the outcome of the presidential election.”

Nawrocki, backed by the opposition PiS party, narrowly defeated Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, the candidate of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s Civic Platform party, in the presidential election in June.

Despite widespread concerns about irregularities and more than 50,000 complaints, the Supreme Court upheld the result. Criticism of the election process has grown because the complaints were heard by a chamber that has been widely criticized for being politicized under previous PiS governments and has not been recognized as legitimate by the EU’s top court.

Golovnya ruled out any delay, saying there was no legal or factual basis to block the swearing-in ceremony, which is set to take place in both houses of parliament.
