Of the 45 Ukrainian males expelled from the United States by agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), 24 were promptly transported to territorial processing facilities as they were listed as wanted, as communicated to CNN by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

Among them was Volodymyr Dudnyk: Ukrainian officers almost immediately upon crossing the frontier He was dispatched to a training base. He remained there for 51 days, followed by several weeks of instruction to become a drone pilot, and now he is engaged in combat on the front lines under the alias “America.”

“When I boarded the aircraft destined for Ukraine, I anticipated what was ahead. However, I was optimistic that perhaps they would at least permit me to return home initially. Everything transpired even more rapidly than I had envisioned. I never made it home; I have yet to see my parents,” he recounts.

During the second term of President Donald Trump, the United States intensified its crackdown on all forms of immigration and initiated a large-scale deportation effort. The White House asserts that its primary focus is on individuals with severe criminal histories, but numerous detainees have only committed minor infractions or possess no prior criminal records whatsoever.

This situation has generated apprehension for numerous individuals, but for Ukrainian men of conscription age, as CNN reports, there exists an elevated risk – being deployed to the battlefield promptly following their expulsion.

“CNN has personally witnessed military officials performing arbitrary document examinations and escorting any individual lacking a legitimate exemption from service directly to military training grounds,” the journalists documented.

“During my time here, I observed a multitude of soldiers’ graves. It profoundly affected me. At that moment, I resolved that I would avoid the North-Eastern Front and engage in combat instead,” states Volodymyr Dudnyk, whose close companions advised him to evade military service.

CNN also provides coverage of another individual who was on the same deportation flight, Anton Smovzh. He conveys that CCC personnel apprehended all individuals classified as “wanted,” irrespective of their circumstances. According to his account, during a medical assessment, they drew his blood for three minutes and declared him fit for duty. Currently, as he confesses, he is eluding service in Kyiv.

“My son holds US citizenship, and effectively, he was also deported because my spouse is unable to work with a young child, necessitating their departure,” says Smowzh.

The individual entered the nation under the U4U initiative, which was established during the Joe Biden administration for Ukrainians. He was apprehended and deported by ICE personnel subsequent to accusations of rape and sexual assault. However, all allegations against him were dismissed shortly prior to his deportation.

Furthermore, the official ICE account disseminated a photograph of Smovzh in handcuffs, surrounded by law enforcement officers wearing masks. It portrayed him as “wanted for rape, aggravated sexual assault, and reckless endangerment.” As of March, the photograph remained accessible online, despite Smovzh never having been convicted of any criminal offenses.

As a reminder, presently, half of Americans endorse abolishing ICE. Simultaneously, only 39% are against eliminating this agency.

The political ramifications of such power dynamics and the reasons behind the alteration of American democracy through the struggle against migrants are explored in the article “ From Roundups to Authoritarianism: Where the Fight Against Migrants Is Leading America,as conveyed by Anna Brodsky-Krotkina .
