The current circumstances in Cuba are “inadmissible” for Washington, affirmed US Senator Marco Rubio, indicating that the United States intends to alter the situation, as reported by Reuters.
Speaking from the White House, Rubio emphasized that the US intends to take actions, though a precise timeline wasn’t specified.
“The situation is unacceptable, and we will address it – but not immediately,” he stated.
Simultaneously, the Senator refuted claims that the United States had enacted an oil blockade against Cuba.
“There isn’t a true oil blockade in place,” Rubio clarified.
According to him, Cuba historically obtained substantial quantities of complimentary oil from Venezuela, but those shipments have ceased.
“The sole development is that Venezuela is no longer providing free oil,” he pointed out.
Cuba is grappling with a severe energy crisis triggered by actions from President Donald Trump's government, encompassing limitations on oil deliveries.
This has already resulted in shortages of fuel, extended power blackouts, and growing societal pressures.
Rubio expressed that the United States stands ready to augment humanitarian assistance to Cuba, provided that its dispersal occurs via independent channels.
“We are prepared to offer greater humanitarian support and distribute it through the church, but the Cuban authorities must permit this,” he mentioned.
As per the Senator, the Cuban administration presently prohibits the execution of such endeavors.
Trump previously declared that Cuba could be the subsequent focus following the conclusion of the military operation against Iran, forecasting the swift downfall of the regime.
