The US President, Donald Trump, declared the “instant” commencement of a blockade in the Hormuz Strait. He communicated this via his social media platform, Truth Social, on April 12th, revealing the termination of discussions between Iran and the United States in Pakistan, merely hours following the conclusion of talks between the two nations that failed to yield an agreement.

Trump indicated that the discussions progressed “favorably,” yet the fundamental concern — “nuclear,” as he underscored — persisted without resolution. Consequently, the US is initiating a blockade of the waterway.

“From this juncture forward, the United States Navy, renowned as the finest globally,” Trump articulated, “is commencing the procedure of intercepting all vessels endeavoring to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Eventually, we will attain the principle: unimpeded entry, unimpeded exit.”

Nevertheless, according to his account, Iran dissented from this principle, contending that “an unmapped mine might exist somewhere.”

Trump denounced this as extortion and cautioned that global leaders, notably the United States, would not succumb to coercion.

President Donald Trump stated that the American Navy would halt any vessel in international seas that remitted levies to Iran.

“I have further instructed our Navy to identify and apprehend within international waters every ship that has furnished tolls to Iran. Vessels remitting illicit tolls will be denied secure passage on the open ocean,” he declared.

As a reminder, the Gulf countries met the US-Iran ceasefire with measured doubt. Despite official declarations backing the accord, assaults in the region have persisted.

Saudi Arabia documented the interception of nine missiles and a drone in the initial hours following the ceasefire’s announcement, emphasizing the divergence between the diplomatic understanding and the prevailing circumstances. The United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Bahrain similarly reported thwarting Iranian missiles subsequent to the ceasefire declaration.

Unrestricted passage through the Hormuz Strait represented a pivotal condition of the ceasefire. However, later that day, Iran declared the cessation of ship transit through the strait, citing the escalation of the Israeli incursion into Lebanon.

Representatives from the Gulf states have emphasized that none are prepared to countenance a scenario wherein Iran effectively holds the strait hostage. The imposition of any “transit fee” by Tehran on the export of their commodities is equally unacceptable, according to the sources.
