The USA has revoked restrictions against Mikhail Zadornov, a well-known Russian financier and prior finance minister. Nevertheless, a US representative informed Reuters that this action does not signal a noteworthy alteration in Washington’s attitude concerning anti-Russia penalties.

Zadornov was added to the list of sanctioned individuals following the commencement of the extensive incursion of Ukraine. He effectively appealed to the U.S. Treasury Department’s OFAC to be taken off the roster.

A US representative stated to journalists that the intention of the restrictions is not retribution, rather “to bring about favorable shifts in conduct” that align with the nation’s national advantage.
“Similar to enacting sanctions, eliminating sanctions on individuals or taking them off the list represents an instrument for realizing US international policy goals,” he noted.

Zadornov held a post within numerous Russian administrations, served as a deputy in the 1st-4th assemblies of the State Duma. He governed the Finance Ministry during the premierships of Viktor Chernomyrdin, Yevgeny Primakov, and Sergei Kiriyenko.

It is worth remembering that in March, the US removed restrictions on Russian crude that was already loaded on tankers underway at sea. This determination was made amid escalating energy costs because of the eruption of warfare in Iran. President Donald Trump communicated that the penalties would be reinstated immediately upon the resolution of the dispute.
