The US President, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that the undertaking aimed at re-establishing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, termed “Project Freedom” by the United States, will be temporarily halted to evaluate the potential for finalizing and signing an agreement, although the embargo will remain in effect, according to reports from the Associated Press.

The president communicated the decision via a post on social media Tuesday evening, stating that he was implementing a pause to allow room for American diplomatic endeavors to achieve an accord with Iran and conclude the conflict.

“Following a request from Pakistan and other entities, and considering the significant military achievements realized in our campaign against Iran, coupled with the substantial headway we’ve made in striving towards a comprehensive and conclusive agreement with Iran, we have mutually decided that while the blockade stays fully enforced, Project Freedom (the transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz) will be suspended for a brief duration to ascertain if an agreement can be ultimately reached and ratified,” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The White House did not offer any further specifics regarding the advancement of the discussions, which Trump referenced in his announcement.

Previously, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, declared the conclusion of the offensive portion of the hostilities against Iran.

Trump unveiled Project Freedom, intended to render aid to impartial commercial vessels marooned in the Strait of Hormuz, on Sunday, May 3. It commenced operations on Monday morning.

Within Iran, Trump’s recent initiative concerning the Strait of Hormuz has been labelled the “Dead End Project.”
