US President Donald Trump on Friday revoked the security clearances of former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others in his latest move against his Democratic opponents.
The Republican president, who also revoked former President Joe Biden's security clearance, defeated Mrs Clinton in the 2016 presidential election and Ms Harris in last year's election.
“I have concluded that providing access to classified information to the following individuals is no longer in the national interest,” Mr. Trump said in a memo released late on Friday that also named former Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
While the lifting of sanctions may not have an immediate impact, it is another sign of the growing political rift in Washington as Mr Trump seeks revenge on his perceived enemies.
The memo was released hours after Mr Trump arrived for the weekend at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Mr Trump also criticised former Republican Representative Liz Cheney, a sharp critic of Mr Trump, former national security adviser Jake Sullivan and Fiona Hill, a Russia expert who served on the National Security Council during his first term.
Mark Zaid, a Washington national security lawyer who represents whistleblowers, and Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican lawmaker who is a sharp critic of Trump, were among those whose security clearances were revoked.
He has already revoked Mr Biden's security clearance, depriving the former president of traditional access to US intelligence.
Former US presidents have traditionally received intelligence briefings to enable them to advise sitting presidents on national security and foreign policy issues.
In 2021, Mr. Biden revoked the security clearance of Mr. Trump, then the former president.
