Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once more voiced disapproval of the United Kingdom, following reports that UK aircraft carriers might be dispatched to the Middle East. In a statement posted on the Truth Social network, he stated that Washington “no longer requires” such aid.
Within the message, Trump directly addressed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
“The UK, once our magnificent ally – possibly the best of all – is ultimately giving serious consideration to sending a couple of aircraft carriers to the Middle East. That’s alright, Prime Minister Starmer, but we don’t require them any longer. We have no need for nations to join conflicts after we have already prevailed. However, we will bear this in mind.”
It was previously indicated that the United Kingdom is readying the HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier for a potential deployment to the Middle East, alongside further vessels and planes.
Of late, the rapport between the White House and Downing Street has demonstrably weakened.
On Tuesday, Trump rebuked Starmer for what he considered insufficient backing for a military endeavor against Iran, expressing that the British prime minister was “no Winston Churchill” and was “detrimentally affecting ties.”
Previously, the UK had denied the US permission to conduct operations from British RAF bases, mentioning international legislation. Starmer subsequently altered his stance and stated that he would permit the utilization of the bases for “specific and limited defensive intentions.”
Nevertheless, Trump expressed that he was “very let down” by the British government’s initial choice and openly criticized Starmer on numerous instances, asserting that the bond between the two countries “is not what it once was.”
