President Donald Trump announced that the United States will halt all commerce with Spain following its denial to permit the employment of its military installations for operations against Iran, during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

“We desire no interaction with Spain. Spain has acted deplorably. I have instructed Treasury Secretary Bessant to terminate all relations with Spain,” the US president affirmed.

He further mentioned that Spain’s unwillingness to allow the utilization of their bases poses no difficulty, because the US has no need for them.

“Should we choose, we could simply enter and utilize them. No entity will prevent us from doing so, but we are not compelled to act that way,” Trump asserted.

As a point of reference, on March 1, 15 American airplanes departed from two bases in southern Spain after the nation's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez proclaimed that his administration would abstain from participating in a war against Iran, which he deems a breach of international legislation.
