Former President Donald J. Trump in North Carolina on Wednesday. His rally on Saturday in Prairie du Chien, Wis., on Saturday will indoors.

The Trump campaign changed its plans for an outdoor rally in Wisconsin this weekend, according to a person familiar with the planning, and a senior official at the Secret Service said the agency had raised concerns about its ability to properly secure the initially planned outdoor venue.

Mr. Trump is scheduled to hold the rally at an indoor venue in Prairie du Chien, Wis., on Saturday. But his campaign had originally sought to hold the event outdoors, according to the person familiar with the planning, who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

But the Secret Service informed the campaign that it was not sure it could provide adequate resources to secure the site, in part because of the high number of staff members required to provide security during the annual summit meeting of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, according to the Secret Service official, who was briefed on the planning but also not authorized to publicly discuss it.

The venue change was reported earlier by CBS and NBC.

Mr. Trump’s team has been weighing whether to change his travel and event planning after threats to his life from Iran and two assassination attempts in recent months.

He has continued to hold large scale events, including outdoor rallies at airports in the last month. On Saturday, Mr. Trump plans to attend a major football game between the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia, where he may appear in front of a crowd at stadium that can hold roughly 100,000. And next month, he will return to Butler, Pa., where he survived in assassination attempt in July, for a rally at the same venue.

Still, Mr. Trump’s rallies have changed in scope. When outdoors, he now appears behind bulletproof glass. And he has signaled that the two assassination attempts and the Iranian threats have made him jumpy. At a rally on Long Island last week, he voiced his nerves after he thought he saw someone approaching the stage, acknowledging that he had a “yip problem.”
