The United States Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, announced her departure from the role on Friday, explaining it was due to her husband’s severe health issue.
“My spouse, Abraham, has recently received a diagnosis of an extremely uncommon form of cancer affecting the bones. He is facing significant trials in the upcoming weeks and months. At this moment, I must step away from government service to be at his side and fully give him my support in this battle,” Gabbard penned in a declaration of resignation, the text of which was cited by The Hill.
Her final day of work will be June 30.
US President Donald Trump has verified her leaving on Truth Social.
“Sadly, after doing a fantastic job, Tulsi Gabbard is departing from the administration,” he noted, and conveyed wishes for a swift recovery for Gabbard’s husband.
“Tulsi executed an outstanding job, and we will be sad to see her go,” the American president further stated.
He communicated that Deputy Gabbard Aaron Lucas would provisionally act as Director of National Intelligence.
Throughout her period in office, Gabbard remained a divisive individual within American intelligence. She lacked the customary professional background for the position and repeatedly drew critique for pronouncements that were perceived in the United States as mirroring Russian narratives.
In recent times, Tulsi Gabbard made an appearance at a Senate hearing presenting prepared documents that explicitly stated that Iran’s atomic enrichment initiative had been “terminated,” and that subsequent to Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025, Tehran had “made zero attempts to reinstate that aptitude.” These U.S. intelligence discoveries would denote one thing: Iran introduces no atomic menace following the strikes, and there exists no rationale for a further conflict. However, this is precisely the section of her written testimony that Gabbard neglected to include and supplanted with the precise contrary assertion.
