Nicola Sturgeon has said her forthcoming memoir will be open and frank about her “mistakes and sorrows” as well as her “triumphs”, as she revealed the book's title, Frankly.
The former Scottish First Minister has been working on the book since at least 2023, when Pan Macmillan acquired the UK rights in a closely fought auction.
Earlier this month, Ms Sturgeon spoke of her relief after announcing plans to stand down as an MP at the 2026 Holyrood election.
The book promises to be a “personal and revealing memoir” charting Ms Sturgeon's journey from her working-class childhood in Ayrshire to becoming Scotland's most prominent politician.
Although Ms Sturgeon did not specify, the name “Frankly” may be a reference to comedian Janey Godley's catchphrase “Frank, open the door” – part of Godley's off-screen parodies of Ms Sturgeon's coronavirus news briefings that have brought her viral fame during the pandemic.
In a social media post, the SNP MP said Frankly was available to pre-order and would be released on August 14.
She said: “I put my whole soul into this book. It tells the story of my personal journey, the extraordinary events that I was lucky enough to experience and that I had to go through.”
She said it would be a behind-the-scenes look, including her interactions with “colorful characters.”
Ms Sturgeon continued: “The title captures what the book is all about: open, honest and frank.
“About my mistakes and my sorrows, and also about my triumphs and achievements.”
Months after announcing her resignation as First Minister in February 2023, her husband and former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell was arrested in connection with a police investigation into the SNP's finances.
He was later arrested again and charged with alleged embezzlement of party funds.
Ms Sturgeon was also arrested as part of the same investigation, as was former party treasurer Colin Beattie.
They were both released without charges pending further investigation.
Earlier this year, Ms Sturgeon announced that she and Mr Murrell had “decided to end” their marriage.
