The socialist party PSOE has denounced media companies ABC, El Mundo and El Español, and poll-making companies Sigma2, GAD3, and SOCIOMETRA before the Central Electoral Board (JEC) for publishing polls omitting information and giving Partido Popular (PP) a “far superior” result.
According to the socialists, these companies failed to publish information related to the elaboration and methodology of the polls, mandatory under Article 69 of Spain’s electoral law (LOREG). This article also establishes the JEC must ensure that survey data does not contain falsifications or concealments.
The PSOE has requested the JEC to ensure that the three media companies publish the rectifications within three days of an official decision to prevent these polls from “intoxicating” a very short electoral period before the elections on 23 July.
“What we want is to facilitate the greatest possible transparency so that citizens have access to truthful information and can therefore decide how they will vote on 23 July in a free and conscious manner, free from any kind of intoxication,” said PSOE’s Electoral Action Secretary Javier Izquierdo.
Specifically, the socialists argue that the three media companies did not publish data regarding the legal name and dress of the entity carrying out the survey and the one commissioning it, the full text of the questions asked, the number of people who did not answer each one of them, the margin of error, the level of representativeness, and the sampling methodology and the date on which the fieldwork was carried out.
