The administration of US President Donald Trump is considering imposing sanctions on Russia after Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin continued bombing Ukraine despite recent peace talks, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant said in an interview with Fox News.

“I think everything is on the table. President Putin, after the historic meeting in Anchorage, after the phone call when the European leaders and President Zelensky were at the White House the following Monday, did the opposite of what he said he wanted to do. In fact, he, in the most disgusting, most disgusting way, escalated the bombing,” Bessent said.

The Treasury Secretary added that “for President Trump, all options remain open, and I think we will consider them very carefully this week.”

On the night of August 28, Russia launched 32 missiles and nearly 600 strike drones into Ukraine. In the Darnytsia district, the missiles hit a five-story building and destroyed part of it. There were 20 people in the basement of this building at the time of the missile strike – they all survived.

Damage was also recorded in the Obolonsky, Dniprovsky, Solomyansky, Shevchenkivsky, Holosiivsky and Desnyansky districts of the city. In addition, the building of the European Union mission to Ukraine was also damaged in the capital. In total, 25 people died in the attack in Kyiv.

Diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine have so far failed, even after US President Donald Trump held separate meetings with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine earlier this month. Trump has repeatedly threatened Russia with sanctions and “serious consequences,” set “deadlines” for Putin, but ultimately failed to take concrete action. Russia, meanwhile, continues to bomb Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones, showing no sign of stopping the war.
