US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant stated during a Fox Business interview that Washington is contemplating easing restrictions on particular Russian oil shipments to bring stability to the worldwide marketplace.
This Tuesday, the United States authorized India to boost its procurements of Russian oil on a temporary basis, thereby reducing strain on the world’s third largest oil consumer, as an upsurge in the Persian Gulf interrupted the movement of energy.
“The Treasury Department has consented to permit our allies within India to commence purchasing Russian oil that had already been en route. We possess the capacity to remove constraints on additional Russian oil,” Bessent conveyed on the Kudlow program.
As per his declaration, hundreds of millions of barrels of oil are currently at sea, subject to the limitations imposed.
“And, fundamentally, through the act of lifting the restrictions, the Treasury Department is capable of generating a supply, and we are weighing that option,” he appended.
Based on data acquired from ship tracking and estimations by Kpler, approximately 11 million barrels of Russian oil are situated on tankers remaining idle in Asia, with around 70% of these vessels positioned offshore of China and in the Singapore Strait. Nevertheless, a greater quantity of tankers are actively in transit, suggesting the potential for an even higher cumulative figure.
Bessant elucidated that Iran aspires to instigate economic disarray, but the United States is equipped for this eventuality.
“We had foreseen all of this. It figures into the president’s strategies, and matters are proceeding as intended,” he articulated.
Earlier on Friday, President Donald Trump issued a request to Iranian leaders for “unconditional surrender” and iterated that the United States would persist in targeting sites within the nation until the regime yields.
