A special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, is expected to arrive in Miami this Saturday for a series of working meetings with figures from the US President Donald Trump’s administration, as reported by Reuters, citing reliable sources.

As per the agency’s sources, these meetings will occur behind closed doors, and their specific details haven’t been publicly revealed. However, the mere fact of the high-level Russian official’s journey to the United States has garnered significant interest, particularly given the dearth of openly declared diplomatic interactions between Moscow and Washington at the highest echelons.

Dmitriev is regarded as a prominent figure in the Kremlin concerning international finance and investment. Throughout his career, he has also been involved in unofficial channels of communication between Russia and Western nations, encompassing delicate negotiation efforts.

In the meantime, US President Donald Trump has stated that despite the intense antagonism between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, the possibility of fruitful discussions still remains. He articulated this on Friday, January 30, during an executive order signing ceremony at the White House.

Responding to journalists’ inquiries regarding the prospects of negotiations without direct American involvement, Trump mentioned that “there exists a chance for achievement,” while acknowledging that the personal conflict between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin noticeably complicates the endeavor.

The US President reiterated his ambition to achieve an end to the conflict, reaffirmed statements regarding the magnitude of human casualties, and emphasized that, according to his perspective, the parties are progressively moving towards accords.

“I believe we possess a reasonably favorable prospect of reaching an agreement,” Trump concluded.

Based on available data, another set of discussions concerning a potential peace accord between Russia and Ukraine is slated for February 1.

Previously, the WSJ projected three potential scenarios for the unfolding of events in 2026.
