US Envoy to NATO Matthew Whitaker has conveyed his skepticism regarding Russia's assertion that Ukraine employed unmanned aerial vehicles to strike the dwelling of Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, Reuters indicates .
“It remains uncertain if that actually transpired… I believe it’s rather imprudent to be so near a prospective peace agreement when Ukraine genuinely desires to achieve one and then undertake actions that might be viewed as unwise or counterproductive,” Whitaker stated during an interview with Fox Business.
He further noted that he wishes to familiarize himself with the facts held by American intelligence communities concerning this event.
On Monday, December 29th, Russia announced that Ukraine had targeted the presidential estate in the Novgorod region with 91 UAVs. Russian representatives communicated that Russia would retaliate and that its stance in any future discussions would become more rigid.
Ukraine has branded Russia’s claims as “fabrications” intended to legitimize increased aggression against Ukraine. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga commented on Tuesday that Russia had shared no substantiation “because it simply does not exist.”
US President Donald Trump remarked on Monday that Putin communicated to him during a phone conversation that Ukraine had attempted an assault on the estate. Trump declared he was “very upset” by the development. When questioned if there was confirmation of such an attack, Trump responded: “We will ascertain the truth.”
The White House chose not to provide additional remarks regarding the supposed incident, and U.S. intelligence departments are withholding details regarding the matter.
