During an operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, federal immigration personnel fatally shot a man amid the Donald Trump administration's immigration enforcement efforts. This occurrence triggered extensive demonstrations and a forceful reaction from local and statewide authorities, as reported by US news outlets.
Minneapolis Police Head Brian O'Gara stated that the individual who died was 37 years old. He noted the man was the legitimate owner of a firearm, possessed a license to carry it, and his sole prior engagement with the police involved moving traffic violations. As per initial data, more than one federal officer participated in the day’s shooting.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the man was armed with a pistol and two magazines during the event. The department expressed that agents acted in “self-defense” following the man’s alleged opposition to an attempt to disarm him. Local law enforcement indicated the particulars of the event were still being examined.

The event transpired near the corner of West 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue, a short distance from the site where a federal agent fatally shot Minneapolis resident Renee Nicole Goode at the start of January. Her passing had already touched off a surge of demonstrations in the Twin Cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul.
At least 200 demonstrators assembled close to the scene following Saturday's gunfire. Individuals shouted “go home” and “killers” and directed insults at federal agents. Footage from the location displayed one of the agents derisively uttering “Boo hoo!” towards the demonstrators as he departed. Dark fumes were observed surging from adjacent streets as demonstrators ignited a metallic garbage container. Federal personnel deployed tear gas and flash-bangs.
Police Chief O'Hara made an appeal for composure to both demonstrators and federal law enforcement.
“We insist that federal agencies functioning in our city conduct themselves with the identical discipline, humanity, and uprightness that effective policing necessitates,” he expressed.
State Governor Tim Walz heavily denounced the actions of federal agents and urged the White House to promptly withdraw them from the state.
“Minnesota will endure this no longer. This is revolting. The President must instantly terminate this procedure and remove thousands of fierce, untrained personnel from our state,” Walz posted on social media X.
Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar also issued a declaration, branding the event “the slaying of a community inhabitant” and accusing the federal government of infringing upon constitutional freedoms under the veil of immigration management.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called upon individuals throughout the nation to back Minneapolis after ICE officers fatally shot a third individual in recent weeks.
“To everyone within listening range, I advise you to bolster Minneapolis. Your offspring will inquire about which faction you supported. Your descendants will question what you undertook to avert this from recurring,” Frey declared.
