J.D. Vance and Tim Ryan Will Debate in the Ohio Senate Race | INFBusiness.com

Representative Tim Ryan, left, and J.D. Vance. The two Senate candidates will debate at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

The conservative author J.D. Vance, a Republican, and Representative Tim Ryan, a Democrat, will debate each other Monday night in a Senate race in Ohio that appears more competitive than many political observers had expected.

Ohio, once a quintessential swing state, has become increasingly Republican in the past few years. While that gives Mr. Vance a clear advantage, Mr. Ryan’s poll numbers have improved since the campaign began, and all major forecasters rate the race as competitive.

Mr. Vance has transformed himself from a self-described “never Trump” Republican in 2016 to a staunch supporter of the former president, whose endorsement helped Mr. Vance win his primary. Before he ran for office, he was best known as the author of the book “Hillbilly Elegy.”

Mr. Ryan has made his own transformation over the years, from an anti-abortion, pro-gun Democrat endorsed by the National Rifle Association to a supporter of abortion rights and stricter gun laws, though he remains more moderate than many of his colleagues in the House and has sought to distance himself from the Biden administration.

The hourlong debate starts at 7 p.m. Eastern time and will be streamed live on the websites of Nexstar television stations in the state. Our reporters will provide live updates and analysis.
