The majority of Americans, approximately two-thirds, are of the opinion that the United States ought to conclude the conflict with Iran without delay , even at the expense of failing to fulfill the objectives established by the government of U.S. President Donald Trump, as indicated by a recent Reuters/Ipsos survey .

Around 66% of those surveyed shared this perspective, while 27% expressed that the U.S. should strive to accomplish all its aims in Iran, irrespective of the war’s duration. 6% did not offer a response to the question.

Within the ranks of Trump’s Republican supporters, 40% were in favor of a swift cessation of hostilities, even if it meant not attaining U.S. ambitions, whereas 57% advocated for a more extended engagement in the war.

In general, 60% of those polled voiced their disapproval of U.S. military actions against Iran, contrasting with the 35% who gave their approval.

A notable consequence of the war within the United States has been the surge in gasoline prices, which exceeded $4 per gallon for the first time in over three years on Monday, March 30, as reported by the price-tracking firm GasBuddy. Two out of three individuals surveyed anticipate further increases in gasoline costs during the upcoming year, including 40% of Republicans.

Over half of the respondents harbor the belief that a war involving Iran would exert a predominantly detrimental influence on their personal finances, a sentiment shared by 39% of the Republicans polled.

Trump’s Republican Party is set to contest to maintain its narrow control in both the House and Senate during the midterm elections this coming November. Historically, the party in power tends to forfeit congressional seats during these midterm elections.

The Reuters poll was carried out from March 27 through 29, encompassing 1,021 participants.

The month-long conflict has extended its reach across the Middle East, impacting the global economy with spiraling energy expenses and amplifying the potential for worldwide inflation.

Trump stated on Wednesday, April 1, that the United States possessed the capacity to conclude its military operations against Iran within a span of two to three weeks, and that Tehran was not required to reach an agreement as a precondition for ending the war. These recent remarks mirrored a fluctuating and at times conflicting narrative emanating from Washington regarding the potential resolution of the conflict. Trump had previously issued threats to intensify military endeavors should Tehran fail to ratify a 15-point ceasefire agreement brokered by the U.S., the principal demands of which incorporated Iran’s commitment to relinquishing nuclear weaponry, ceasing all uranium enrichment activities, and granting unrestricted access to the Strait of Hormuz.

Oleh Shamshur , the former Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, expressed in his article entitled “ Three “Iranian” scenarios for Trump: victory, escalation, or political fiascohow the hostilities in the Middle East are in danger of swiftly evolving into a major political liability for the Trump administration .
