The protracted campaign led by President Donald Trump aimed at eroding confidence in U.S. voting processes has garnered considerable backing among Americans, possibly laying a foundation for misinformation in advance of the November midterm elections, a survey conducted by Reuters/Ipsos revealed.

Indeed, the majority of Republicans expressed the belief that electoral fraud is widespread, despite  the absence of supporting evidence. They also advocate for the presence of federal law enforcement personnel at voting locations.

“Approximately 46% of those surveyed indicated agreement with the assertion that a substantial quantity of fraudulent ballots are cast by non-citizens in U.S. elections, with 82% of Republicans concurring, as opposed to 18% of Democrats and 38% of independents,” the survey indicated.

It is worth noting that around 53% of those polled are apprehensive regarding counterfeit mail-in or absentee ballots. Conversely, 43% stated they lack such concerns. A definite partisan divide exists: 83% of Republicans voiced concern, in contrast to 33% of Democrats.

The poll, as journalists point out, suggests that numerous Americans are inclined to accept allegations of misconduct in the November elections. These are favored by Democrats, who will endeavor to reclaim their seats in the House of Representatives. Republican dominance of the Senate will also face a challenge amid voter dissatisfaction with the war with Iran and stubbornly elevated inflation.

Trump's approval rating has declined to a fresh nadir, according to a University of Massachusetts Amherst poll, with 33% of respondents expressing endorsement of the president's performance. Among the 62% who conveyed disapproval of his performance in office, 53% articulated strong disapproval.
