US President Donald Trump asserts that Iran desired to appoint him as supreme leader. Nevertheless, he declined.
The American chief executive offered this remark during an address at a philanthropic gala for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
“There has never been a state leader who craved this position with less enthusiasm than he desired to become the leader of Iran. We comprehend them precisely. They express, 'I am disinterested. We would be pleased to designate you as the forthcoming supreme leader.' No, I appreciate the thought. I am disinterested,” Trump articulated.
Furthermore, as per Trump, Washington and Tehran are in discussions to finalize the war, despite Iran's resistance.
It is worth recalling that Trump previously caused a stir with an announcement concerning Iran. Specifically, he conveyed that the term “war” should be avoided. He suggested that then authorization would be requisite. Consequently, the chief of the White House stated, he will employ the expression “military operation.”
Concurrently, the US president identified a “fall guy” – accountable for the intensification of the dispute with Iran. In effect, Trump passed the blame to Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett. He indicated that the head of the Pentagon initially recommended initiating the operation.
