Per information obtained from Israeli intelligence, Mojtaba Khamenei, the new top leader of Iran, reportedly suffered minor wounds during the collaborative US and Israeli military actions on Iranian soil.
Reuters disseminated this information, quoting a high-ranking Israeli official.
According to the official, this instance might shed light on the reasons for the recent absence of Iran’s new leader from public view.
How Mojtaba Khamenei Ascended to the Leadership of Iran
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has become Iran’s latest Supreme Leader.
Information suggests that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vigorously endorsed his nomination, viewing him as a more dependable figure who would uphold the stringent policies of the security forces.
Certain Iranian sources posit that his selection could result in a more forceful foreign policy and heightened internal oppression.
The Contentious Nature of His Appointment
Mojtaba Khamenei, aged 56, has never before occupied a public office. However, he has long been regarded as an influential personage within Iranian religious and political circles.
He maintains strong connections with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and has been subjected to US sanctions since 2019.
His designation stirred disagreement among the Iranian elite, given that the handover of authority from father to son is not typically deemed an acceptable practice within Iran’s political convention established after the Islamic Revolution.
The Function of Iran’s Supreme Leader
The Supreme Leader’s role represents the apex of power within Iran’s political framework.
It encompasses oversight of pivotal governmental choices, including military strategy, the judicial structure, and law enforcement bodies.
Essentially, the supreme leader exerts the ultimate influence over the nation’s domestic and international affairs.
Strenuous Declarations by Israel and the US
Previously, US President Donald Trump remarked that Iran’s new leader would struggle to maintain power without the support of the international community.
Concurrently, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz cautioned that any replacement for the previous Iranian leader could become a target for elimination.
As a reminder, Ali Khamenei, the preceding Supreme Leader of Iran, was killed during a significant US and Israeli offensive on Tehran, during which approximately 30 explosives were deployed on the facility where he was located.
Reports also surfaced indicating that Israel initiated a second sequence of attacks on the Iranian capital, Tehran, and additionally targeted the peripheries of Beirut in Lebanon. Simultaneously, Iran launched missiles towards Israeli territory.
