The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is dispatching additional air protection systems to Turkey, aiming to boost airspace security amid the growing tensions in the Middle East.
This announcement came from the Turkish Department of Defense, as reported by Reuters.
It’s another American Patriot setup, being positioned in the southern province of Adana, the site of Incirlik Air Base, which houses U.S. and other nations’ military personnel.
Alongside Adana, the Patriot system had been previously stationed in the province of Malatya, near the NATO radar installation.
Thus, the coalition is enhancing Turkey’s missile defense, as the country shares a boundary with Iran and is located in a high-risk zone.
Aside from the Turkish armed forces, the Incirlik base accommodates detachments from the United States, Spain, Poland, and Qatar.
The reason for NATO’s Patriot system deployments in Turkey
This strengthening of defense is linked to the threat of missiles due to the conflict with Iran. Turkey has mentioned intercepting missiles that made their way into its airspace.
Concurrently, Ankara lacks a fully developed air defense capability of its own, depending largely on NATO systems.

In previous news, Turkey confirmed that NATO forces had already downed missiles from Iran that had intruded into the nation’s airspace.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan underlined that Turkey does not endorse strikes on Iran or Tehran’s attacks on other nations, urging a halt to the escalating situation.
Conversely, Iran refuted any part in the missile launches that crossed over Turkish airspace.
