The Israeli military said on Wednesday it had intercepted a rocket launched from Yemen, while sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and several other parts of the country.
Yemen’s Houthis later claimed responsibility, saying they fired two ballistic missiles at Tel Aviv in what they said was a first response to Israeli attacks on Yemen.
Iran-backed Houthis have been firing missiles and drones thousands of miles north toward Israel in what the group says is an act of solidarity with the Palestinians.
Israel responded by bombing Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, including the vital port of Hodeida. The latest strike killed senior Houthi officials, including the prime minister.
The Houthis, who control the most populous areas of Yemen, have also attacked shipping in the Red Sea since the war in Gaza began in October 2023.
