Such a stance might pose an impediment to the discussions aimed at fostering amity between Tehran and Washington.
According to informants from the aforementioned agency, the Iranian government is apprehensive that moving uranium stores beyond its borders could render Iran more susceptible to potential attacks from the United States and Israel.
Prior, officials from Israel informed Reuters that US President Donald Trump purportedly assured Israel that any peaceful resolution with Iran must involve the elimination from the country of its reserves of highly refined uranium, which is usable for the production of atomic weaponry.
It is worth noting that Israel, the United States, and several Western nations have for a while been accusing Iran of endeavoring to procure nuclear arms. Specifically, they draw attention to the uranium enrichment to 60% – a standard that markedly surpasses the requirements for civilian energy and nears the 90% threshold needed for crafting a nuclear explosive. Tehran denies these assertions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously communicated that the conflict cannot be deemed concluded until Iran disposes of its enriched uranium inventories, ceases supporting allied organizations, and reduces its ballistic missile initiatives.
As per the IAEA, Iran possesses roughly 440 kilograms of uranium refined to 60%. This amount is, in theory, adequate for fabricating multiple nuclear bombs with further upgrading.
