US President Donald Trump has cautioned the Iranian government about potential intervention should they employ violent measures against non-violent demonstrators.

He stated this on his Truth Social platform.

“Should Iran, as is typical, initiate gunfire and brutally slay peaceful demonstrators, the United States of America will extend aid. We stand prepared to act,” Trump penned.

As per the BBC, nationwide demonstrations began among merchants angered by yet another significant decrease in the worth of the Iranian currency against the US dollar on the open market. By Tuesday, December 30, university students had become involved in the demonstrations. These demonstrations are being regarded as the most substantial since 2022, when the passing of Mahsa Amini impacted the nation.

While the demonstrations started as protests concerning degrading living standards, participants also conveyed their displeasure with the manner in which Iran is administered. Women's rights advocates, merchants, and students commenced chanting phrases such as “Death to the dictator” and “Women, life, freedom.” Demonstrators in Isfahan were recorded chanting “Don't be afraid, we are all together” and “Death to the dictator.” In Dehloran and Baghmalek, demonstrators recited pro-monarchy slogans and urged the removal of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

According to Iran International, a protester from Marvdasht, a father of two, was fatally shot by Iranian security personnel during demonstrations in the city on January 1. The media outlet also previously indicated that police discharging firearms and employing tear gas were recorded in the cities of Nahavand, Asadabad, and Hamadan.

Previously, 13 police officers and Basij personnel sustained injuries in altercations involving stone-throwing in the city of Kuhdasht. The state news organization IRNA declared the death of one individual, a 21-year-old Basij member.
