The Turkish Head of State, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, voiced his worries concerning assaults on merchant and civilian ships in the Black Sea, as reported by the Turkish media outlet TRT.
As per the Turkish leader’s statement, Ankara firmly complies with the terms of the Montreux Convention to impede the escalation of conflict within the Black Sea.
“We are rigorously upholding the Montreux Convention, thus preventing the widening of the war in the Black Sea. Nevertheless, the latest reciprocal attacks have generated a noteworthy hazard to the security of shipping in the zone,” Erdogan remarked.
He underlined that aggressions towards civilian and commercial ships yield no advantages for any party involved.
“We have explicitly cautioned both factions regarding this matter,” the Turkish president highlighted.
To reiterate, a vessel belonging to a Turkish enterprise sustained damage in a Russian strike at the Chornomorsk harbor the previous day. Ankara conveyed that the strike on the Turkish vessel corroborates its deepest concerns about the war’s propagation to the Black Sea and urged the factions to cease their attacks on harbor installations.
