Sultan Kosen secured his place in the Guinness World Records 17 years ago, due to his remarkable height of 2.43 meters. Within a documentary film detailing his life, the man openly discussed the aspects he would most like to transform about his existence, if such a thing were within his grasp.
Sultan was born into a family of agricultural workers in Turkey. All of his relatives are of average stature. Thus, he stands alone in his family as the first to attain such exceptional dimensions.
Sultan Kösen suffers from both gigantism and acromegaly, conditions stemming from a tumor. This growth exerts pressure upon the pituitary gland within his brain. As a consequence of gigantism, the world's tallest man has been compelled to rely on a wheelchair and crutches since reaching the age of 25.
He experiences constant discomfort as his considerable weight applies pressure to his musculoskeletal framework. He has been through a series of surgical procedures—three addressing his legs and three focusing on his brain—aimed at managing the manifestations of his growth.
Within the documentary entitled “The Tallest Man in the World,” Sultan Kösen delved into the repercussions of his height upon his well-being, alongside the specific change he longs to make within himself.
“Were I able to adjust one aspect of my existence, it would undoubtedly be my knees. I yearn to be able to run freely, to take long walks, and to travel extensively,” the man confessed.
His brother, Hasan Kosen, conveyed that Sultan would experience far greater contentment were he to find a life partner. However, the man spends considerable time in front of his computer.
The world’s tallest man was previously married, but that relationship ultimately dissolved. In 2013, he entered into matrimony with a woman standing at 160 cm in height, named Merve Dibo. Sultan had hoped to discover a lifelong companion, yet their union proved unsustainable, leading to their divorce in 2021.
“We reached an impasse. My wife opted to prioritize her family. Consequently, we divorced. Our shared happiness proved ephemeral. When I reflect upon it, I experience profound sadness, as the separation was deeply distressing, and I harbored immense affection for her,” Sultan Kösen revealed.
