Following the commencement of hostilities in Iran, the quantity of trending posts on Western and Chinese social networks, offering elaborate descriptions of weapon deployment at US military installations, the paths of American carrier strike groups, and the preparatory measures for aerial attacks on Iranian soil, has increased drastically.

This information is provided by The Washington Post.

According to the news outlet, these publications originate from Chinese privately held firms that utilize artificial intelligence alongside open-source data, commercializing the resulting data as a form of intelligence output.

This encompasses, notably, the examination of satellite imagery, flight and maritime vessel monitoring, and other publicly accessible information that, following processing by AI, enables the surveillance of military force movements.

The article points out that some of these enterprises have connections with the People's Liberation Army of China.

Officially, Beijing attempts to disassociate itself from direct participation in the Iran conflict. Nevertheless, the private sector, which is experiencing significant growth under the state policy of military-civilian fusion, is effectively capitalizing on the circumstances.

Correspondents indicate that in recent years, China has allocated substantial funds to the growth of entities that utilize artificial intelligence for military applications. In March, the nation’s governing bodies declared their intention to further augment this focus as a component of a new five-year strategy.

Despite the fact that such information is ostensibly derived from open sources, their scope and precision are causes for alarm within the United States. American functionaries and intelligence bodies currently lack a consistent appraisal of the degree of threat, but acknowledge that the expansion of the market for such services is giving rise to novel security vulnerabilities.

“The increasing number of highly proficient private geospatial analytics firms in China will fortify China’s defense competencies and its aptitude to challenge U.S. forces during a crisis,” stated Ryan Fedasyuk, a research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

Among these organizations, the report highlights MizarVision, established in 2021. It employs a combination of Western and Chinese data, processed by AI, to observe operations at American bases in the Middle East.

More specifically, the company tracks the movements of US naval assets, and ascertains the quantity and placement of aircraft and anti-missile systems.

The piece highlights that MizarVision thoroughly documented the escalation of the American presence in the lead-up to Operation Epic Fury. It also disseminated information on the categories and quantities of aircraft at Israel's Ovda air station, Saudi Arabia's Prince Sultan, and Qatar's Al-Udeid.

Journalists note that the firm is not formally affiliated with the Chinese armed forces, but holds a certification from the National Military Standard of China.

Furthermore, its analyses partially rely on commercial satellite imagery, including data from Western providers like Vantor and Airbus, and Planet Labs. It is still uncertain whether these entities are sharing the data directly with the Chinese.

In the US, these pursuits have already provoked apprehension among legislators. Analysts stress that such private frameworks might evolve into an instrument for Beijing to provide indirect backing to allies, enabling it to officially maintain its distance from global disputes.

It was previously reported that Iran's recent assaults on two American warplanes have purportedly placed US President Donald Trump into “panic mode.”

We previously informed that since the inception of the US operation against Iran, 13 American troops have perished and 365 have been injured.
