A designated tribunal within India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has placed seven foreign nationals, inclusive of Ukrainian and American nationals, under detention for 11 days to aid an inquiry into potential involvement with militant factions.

Hindustan Times carried this story.

As per the inquiry, the arrestees were presented before the court situated at the Patiala House compound in New Delhi. Additional Sessions Judge Prashant Sharma mandated their detainment until March 27. The proceeding occurred privately.

Among those apprehended are six citizens of Ukraine, located in Delhi and Lucknow, alongside a US citizen, apprehended in Kolkata.

The NIA claims that the individuals under suspicion entered India utilizing visas and subsequently journeyed to the state of Mizoram, a restricted zone, from where they illegally crossed into Myanmar, where they might have established contact with ethnic armed factions.

Detectives further assert that the individuals in custody purportedly underwent military instruction in Myanmar and might have instructed militants associated with insurgent groups within India. Moreover, they face accusations of potentially moving a sizable consignment of unmanned aerial vehicles from Europe across Indian land. Concurrently, the defense contested the detention application.

Earlier reports indicated that US General Antonio Aguto sustained a head wound after consuming alcohol during a visit to Kyiv. He subsequently misplaced a tube holding sensitive documents. The Pentagon has disclosed particulars.
