During his New Year’s speech, Finnish President Alexander Stubb noted that portions of the peace accord intended to conclude the war in Ukraine might be unjust. As per his statement, Europe cannot ascertain if Russia genuinely desires peace, Yle conveys.

“Peace often entails concession. We must steel ourselves for the notion that not all segments of a peace treaty will necessarily align with our concept of equity,” Stubb stated.

Concurrently, he underscored his belief that the possibility of peace is nearer than at any prior juncture. The Finnish president posited that Europe should forge a direct channel with Russia, with the aim of achieving viable and harmonious relations. Nonetheless, everything “ultimately hinges on Russia’s conduct.”

Stubb had earlier indicated that a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine is improbable by springtime. In the Finnish president’s estimation, Europe will require “sisu” – fortitude, hardihood, and persistence – to navigate the winter season as Russia sustains its multifaceted assaults and disinformation campaigns throughout the continent.
