The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, declared that his nation is earmarking one billion euros for military support to Ukraine in 2026. He emphasized that Madrid’s overall aid in this conflict has already totaled four billion euros, Ukrinform reports.

“I wish to communicate to you fresh actions from Spain — notably, a new military assistance package amounting to 1 billion euros for 2026. Cumulatively, Spain’s backing in this war achieves a sum of 4 billion euros,” he stated during a press meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to Sanchez, a portion of the support encompasses the collaborative manufacture of protective equipment.

He also mentioned that Spain recently initiated funding for the SAFE program, intended to also assist in financing the requirements of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense this year. Ukraine, the Spanish government leader added, can rely on Madrid both in its defense against Russia and in its reconstruction following the war.

As a note, Zelensky is currently in Spain. His press officer, Serhiy Nikiforov, disclosed the imminent signing of Ukrainian-Spanish defense pacts. Prior to this, Zelensky was in Great Britain, where he held discussions with King Charles and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
