Portuguese-based NGO lus Omnibus has filed two lawsuits against TikTok, claiming damages of up to €1.12 billion for illegal practices, making Portugal the second European country in which a case against the social media giant has been filed.
The two lawsuits were filed in the Central Civil Court of Lisbon on Tuesday.
One suit covers users under the age of 13, for which the consumer rights defence association is claiming a total compensation of up to €450 million.
The other one covers those above the age of 13, for which the NGO is claiming damages worth €670 million.
