The previous Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, has become a member of the expert team within the International Advisory Council on Ukraine’s Economic Renewal.

This group will provide counsel to the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, along with his economic advisor, Chrystia Freeland, who formerly served as Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister.

“I am pleased to be a part of the international team providing advice to President Zelensky concerning economic recovery. I am confident that Ukraine – possessing its skilled workforce, abundant natural resources, and a culture fostering innovation – has the potential to evolve into one of Europe’s most vibrant economies. We can assist in forging a resilient and secure Ukraine, which will serve as the cornerstone for a more secure and prosperous Europe,” remarked Rishi Sunak, as reported by The Independent.

According to the news outlet, the consultants convened for their initial meeting on February 26. A key objective of the council is to ensure Ukraine’s readiness for the upcoming winter. Sunak’s involvement within the group will be on a pro bono basis.

Rishi Sunak also holds advisory roles with Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, and Anthropic; acts as a visiting scholar at the Hoover Institution located at Stanford University in California; occupies unpaid positions at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum and the Blavatnik School of Government; authors a column for the Sunday Times; and, in collaboration with his wife, Akshata Murthy, manages a charitable organization dedicated to supporting mathematics education.

The office of the Ukrainian President has yet to issue a statement regarding Sunak’s appointment.

Previously, Dmytro Kuleba, the former Ukrainian Foreign Minister, declared that the current British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, had given up British leadership regarding Ukraine after assuming office.
