The government is set to approve a comprehensive law to protect minors from the current ‘pornographic epidemic’ on the internet in the coming weeks, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez told El País in an interview published on Sunday.
Sánchez warned there is currently a “real epidemic of minors who have access to pornographic content”.
“Data is devastating. One in four young people (in Spain) under the age of 12 has had access to or consumes porn. Almost half of young people under 15 consume it”, Sánchez warned in the interview.
To curb this dangerous trend, Sánchez explained that the coalition executive of the PSOE and the left-wing platform Sumar will soon propose a “national pact” to protect all minors and teenagers.
The proposal will be divided into three areas, “the first is the approval of a comprehensive law for the protection of minors on the internet; the second is the approval of a multidisciplinary strategy in the field of education, digital skills, and also in the field of equality; and finally, the creation of devices to prevent minors from accessing pornographic content”, Sánchez said.
