National Council Speaker Boris Kollár took aim at the Interior Ministry, whose head currently faces a no-confidence motion, for the migrant tent situation at the Czecho-Slovak border, saying the country should have closed its borders a long time ago.

“We should have closed the borders with Hungary a long time ago,” the National Council Speaker said, noting that “here, migrants roam the fields like mice”.

“They build a tent city, then it can become a huge city, then what do we do?” Kollár said about the tent city near the Czecho-Slovak border with over 100 migrants.

The situation is a “failure of the Interior Ministry”, said Bollar, but added that his party, We are Family, parliament’s second-strongest party, will not back the no-confidence motion currently lodged against Interior Minister Roman Mikulec (OĽaNO).

The Interior Ministry previously informed about the tent city it says currently houses 154 migrants, with Ľubomír Thinschmidt from the ministry’s crisis management department saying the migrants do not cause problems and are helping out in the local community.
