The Serbian government has evacuated Serbian citizens trapped between the warring factions of Israel and Hamas after the former declared war following last week’s attack.
Air Serbia has sent a total of three planes, the third of which returned to Belgrade on Monday.
“In the meantime, Air Serbia flights are taking place according to the flight order, there are also today and tomorrow, and there are certain connection possibilities through airlines that fly to Belgrade and Niš with a stopover,” Aleksandar Nikolić, the honorary consul of Serbia in Israel said.
The Israeli military announced that thousands of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel, while armed terrorist groups infiltrated Israel by land, sea and air with paragliders. Multiple explosions were heard over Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and southern Israel – some explosions likely intercepted by incoming rockets – as airstrikes sent Israelis into underground shelters.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Hamas had taken hostages and prisoners of war, but did not specify the number. At least 200 Israelis were killed and 1,452 wounded, Israel’s emergency services and health ministry said. Meanwhile, some 600 Palestinians have been killed and almost 3000 reported injured, including civilians.
The Serbian embassy in Israel says that the largest number of Serbian citizens are far from the explosions, but one citizen was wounded.
“We have one person who was slightly wounded, who was well treated and is feeling well”, said the consul.
He added that the Serbian Embassy has a list of additional citizens who have expressed interest in returning to the country.
