Ambassadors from the European Union haven’t managed to reach an agreement on a 20th set of restrictions against Russia, which they aim to implement by the fourth anniversary of the full-blown incursion. According to Reuters, diplomats could reconvene this weekend, reports The Guardian.

Envoys might assemble before Monday, when EU foreign ministers are slated to meet. In parallel, Kaia Kallas, a prominent EU diplomat, verified the intention to ratify the 20th sanctions package on Monday.

“The restrictive measures are effective. They are significantly impacting Russia’s financial system, and each subsequent measure further curtails its capacity to wage conflict. Moscow is not unbeatable. Its military is experiencing unprecedented losses, and its economy is facing immense pressure. However, Putin will not cease this war until the demerits outweigh the merits, and that is the target we must attain,” she expressed in Krakow.

It is reminded that the new sanctions package directed at Russia establishes a prohibition on the importation of various metals and raw materials from the Russian Federation; notably, ports of external countries will face limitations for the first time; and the proposition encompasses utilizing a mechanism against the circumvention of sanctions by an external country.

Politico previously indicated that the EU is approaching the completion of its 20th sanctions package aimed at Russia, but Hungary is demanding the removal of high-ranking officials from Russian sporting bodies from the sanctions roster, a factor that could potentially impede the package’s endorsement.
