Those who want to become professional soldiers can register at the recruitment centres in each county between 2 May and 16 June, the Defence Ministry (MApN) – which is looking for over 4,100 soldiers – announced on Tuesday.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the training program and no more than 45 years of age at the end of the training program.
Professional soldiers and high-ranked ones (SGP) constitute the largest body of military personnel and perform execution functions specific to fighters and military specialists.
Together with the other soldiers, SGPs have “the noble mission of preserving the integrity and sovereignty of the state, of defending the country’s citizens,” the Defence Ministry said.
“We will have to find more effective methods for attracting and maintaining personnel in the Army,” the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, said recently.
Romania has the longest land border with Ukraine of all NATO countries.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Romania raised its defence spending to 2.5% of GDP from 2%.
Romania is also making significant investments in defence capabilities, including jets, tanks, submarines, and missiles, as well as modernising equipment.
