The pro-Russian party Vazrazhdane will file a vote of no confidence against the Bulgarian government because of its defence policy, party leader Kostadin Kostadinov announced in a Facebook post.

“The elections are over. The next topic that came up on the agenda was the resignation of the government. On Wednesday, we are submitting a vote of no confidence because of the policy of PP-DB-DPS-GERB in the field of defence”, Kostadinov announced.

The government was formed with the mandate of the coalition We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria. It is supported by the largest parliamentary party, GERB of ex-Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, and the Turkish minority party DPS.

The government has strong pro-European policy, including intentions for the Eurozone and Schengen area, and military support for Ukraine much to the disdain of the pro-Russian party Vazrazhdane and the socialists.

As with the first vote of no confidence, which was submitted in October “because of the government’s failure in the Energy sector”, the request of Vazrazhdane is again expected to be supported by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, populist party ITN.

On Tuesday, Defense Minister Todor Tagarev commented that such a vote would be an occasion to explain the country’s defence policy.

“Bulgaria needs defence capabilities that are as well integrated as possible together with those of our allies so that we will be able to guarantee the security and defence of the country,” Tagarev said.

“For me and the cabinet, this will be a good opportunity to publicly explain again to the whole society what the defence policy is that we are leading and everything that we are doing for a more solid defence and more security for Bulgaria and the Bulgarian citizens,” he added.
