Slovakia has strong proficiency in demining technologies, which are now needed in Ukraine with the spread of landmines in the war-torn country, said Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová at a press briefing after a visit to Kyiv with Czech President Petr Pavel.

According to the Slovak President, demining is potentially an area of interest in the Slovak aid to Ukraine.

“Slovakia has great technology, and we are a world leader in demining,” the president said at a press briefing after the visit of Kyiv with the Czech President Petr Pavel.

However, she first wants to discuss the specific form of assistance with the Acting Prime Eduard Heger and the Acting Minister of Defence Jaroslav Naď.

Ukraine is currently one of the most affected countries in terms of landmines.

“Landmines in Ukraine are a huge problem. Simply put, one day of war means the need for 30 days of demining,” Čaputova noted, adding that the Ukrainian side is interested in assistance in this regard. It also offers business opportunities for Slovak companies.

At the same time, the President stated that the renewal of Ukraine has already started. Where there is no fighting, streets, roads, bridges and buildings are being reconstructed. The Head of State considers the reconstruction an opportunity for Slovak companies and entrepreneurs.

Čaputová said that the government has already selected a circle of business entities interested in helping Ukraine. “The government is finalising a scheme that should facilitate this assistance and cooperation,” she added. However, she admitted that the Slovak side’s assistance lags behind the Czech one.

At the same time, the President informed that Ukraine had again asked Slovakia to send an investigative team to document evidence of war crimes. She recalled that Slovakia, together with France, had been the first country to offer its experts in the past, and their interest in joining the investigation was immediate, and it still persists.
