Portuguese Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber al-Sabah, agreed on Thursday on the importance of protecting the people of Gaza and sending humanitarian aid there.
Recently, the minister has held several telephone and face-to-face talks with his counterparts from Israel’s and Palestine’s neighbouring countries, reiterating Portugal’s position that recognises Israel’s right to defend itself after last week’s Hamas attacks as long as it protects civilian lives in the Gaza Strip.
“The two ministers agreed on the importance of protecting the population of Gaza, providing humanitarian aid and creating a dynamic of lasting and sustainable peace for the region,” the ministry wrote on its official account on X (formerly Twitter), referring to the content of an “interesting and useful dialogue” between the two leaders.
Gomes Cravinho has also insisted on the need to contain the conflict to prevent it from escalating and create the conditions for providing adequate humanitarian assistance to the victims of the conflict.
