The Leaders’ Conference on Wednesday looked at a proposed timetable for the general debate on the 2025 budget, to be held on 30 and 31 October, with the final overall vote scheduled for 28 November.

Speaking to journalists, the spokesman for the leaders’ conference, Social Democrat MP Jorge Paulo Oliveira, stressed that this timetable for the debates on next year’s budget will still need to be agreed upon in the Budget and Finance Committee and that “for the time being the dates are indicative”.

If this timetable gets the ‘green light’ from the Budget and Finance Committee, the special debate on the 2025 budget will take place in parliament between 22 and 28 November.

According to the law, the government must submit the budget proposal to Parliament by 10 October.

On 12 September, the Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee, Socialist MP Filipe Neto Brandão, had already proposed that the general debate on the 2025 State Budget be held on both 30 and 31 October.

In the same timetable, which was the subject of a first consensus in the Budget and Finance Committee, it was pointed out that the budget debate should begin on 28 October with the hearing in committee of the Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, followed on 29 October by the hearing of the Minister of Social Security, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho.
