Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán publicly expressed support for former US President Donald Trump via Twitter on Monday ahead of his court appearance on Tuesday.
Trump is accused of falsifying business documents relating to the hush money for porn actress Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 US presidential elections.
“We are ready for this fight. And I look forward to moving forward as quickly as possible to exonerate him,” said Trump’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, as the former president continues to deny having done anything wrong.
From Hungary, Orbán sent Trump his support words and encouragement via Twitter on Monday: “Keep fighting, Mr President! We are with you.”
This message follows a long list of instances where Trump and Orbán have exchanged messages of support. In January 2022, Trump published a letter praising Orbán and backing his reelection for Hungary’s elections in April 2022.
“He has done a powerful and wonderful job in protecting Hungary, stopping illegal immigration, creating jobs and trade, and should be allowed to continue to do so in the upcoming election. He is a strong leader and respected by all”, Trump wrote.
Trump welcomed Orbán to the White House in 2019, a symbolic acceptance for the prime minister who frequently clashes with the European Union leadership and was snubbed by President Joe Biden and Trump’s predecessor, Obama.
